Design Travel explores the interplay between design and travel. It might be a new hotel for business travellers, an airline collaborating with a world-renowned architect or a product designed specifically to enhance the travel experience. Our brief is to make you want to be there and inspire you to seek out incredible design examples when you travel, or in your own city. 

Stephanie Williams, is an interior designer,  writer and travel communicator. Stephanie was the first editor of Qantas epiQure and her work has appeared in magazines, newspapers, television and online.  She also has a love of fashion design, borne while working for Comme des Garcons.

Anantara has now opened the doors to the highest five-star resort in the Middle East with the launch of Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort.

Uniquely situated 2,000 metres above sea level on a great canyon edge in the Al Hajar mountains, Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar is a two hour drive from Muscat International Airport and four and a half hours from Dubai International Airport. A gateway to Oman's ancient forts, souk markets and remote villages, the resort is just a 30-minute drive from the ancient city of Nizwa, known as the 'Pearl of Islam' and capital of Islamic culture. 

Anantara's Dining by Design gives guests the chance to dine on a spectucular cliff-edge platform known as Diana's Point, after Princess Diana who visited the exact spot in 1986. Expert 'Mountain Gurus' from nearby villages share their local knowledge of the areas, while for those looking for an adrenalin rush, the resort offers a 'via ferrata' climbing route, where guests hang from the cliff as they scale its side. The nearby terrain is also ideal for mountain biking, hiking, and abseiling. 

The Anantara Spa draws on the region's Arabic roots with ancient hammam rituals, as well as signature spa treatments using indigenous ingredients and traditions from the mountain area.
